Hey 👋

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be available for new freelance projects + work adventures later this year. With a bit of luck you might be looking for someone like me to help out at your organisation...

My background

I'm a digital product designer and technologist with 15 years experience working in everything from design studios and agencies to start-ups and leading tech companies. I freelanced for most of 2017 at Facebook and previously at the Government Digital Service (where I helped make GOV.UK).

You can take a look at some of the other projects I've worked on.

What I can bring to your team

I strive to bring creativity, fun, common sense + hard work to any team I'd freelance on.

I'm intentionally generalist with my skills and this often complements teams that are in their early stages and need broad skills. As a product designer, my core strength is probably interaction and graphic design for the web, including front-end prototyping and dev with HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

But I can flex other muscles too — sketching, creative/generative coding, motion, bits of 2D and 3D animation, writing and more. I just love learning new things.

My style and aesthetic (if I have one) kind of favours playful, friendly designed products that bring colour and flair.

I have a lot of experience, but take pride in staying curious — the more I learn, the more I realise how much more there is to know.

What I'm looking for

I'm looking for fulfilling design work where I can be part of a small, fun team solving something new and exciting with technology. I don't want to be too prescriptive about what that might be, but there are some things I seek.

I'm happiest when...

  • working on projects that genuinely help people.
  • working on small cross-functional teams.
  • contributing to the why and what we're making.
  • working as a hybrid designer – designing, branding, coding, prototyping, animating, writing.
  • collaborating with other disciplines.
  • working in short feedback loops with engineers.
  • working with teams that don't linger on decision making.
  • there’s not a waterfall in sight.

(I've also pulled together a list of ideals and things that are important to me to be happy in work. This might be useful to help you see if I'd fit well as a freelance hire for your team. Hopefully it doesn't make me sound too needy!)

Sound good?

If so, I'd love to hear from you. I'm very much up for meetings and chats over coffee about possible projects. Feel free to drop me an email or a DM – my contact details are below. In the meantime, here's some other links that may be of interest.

Cheers for reading and please share this with anyone you think might be looking for someone like me.

Thanks!
Guy ✌️
